Today we will pass the first couple of Lock that will take us onto Loch ness. We will sail past Urquhuart Castle and if we’re lucky we might catch a glimpse of Nessie!

In the evening we will tie up in the small touristic town of Fort Augustus to spend the night. There are plenty of nice walks around this area and Fort Augustus itself has some nice pubs and shops.

    Day 3 and 4: Canal

in total we have to go through 29 locks to get from the east- to the westcoast. We will need about two days to navigate the remainder of the canal, the lakes and the locks. There are ample oppurtunities to go ashore for a walk along the canal and to discover this part of scotland.

    Day 5: Fort William

In the shadow of the UK’s largest hill, the Ben Nevis, lies the town of Fort William. Even though it is regarded as one of the wettest places in the UK, the scenery is breathtaking. today we will leave the canal through the sealocks in Corpach and we will anchor in front of Fort William, leaving us with some time to explore the town our to visit the Ben Nevis Distillery.

Day 6: Tobermory (Isle of Mull)

Today we have a nice day sailing to Tobermory. Tobermory is the largest town on the island Mull.  It is a charming little place with brightly colored houses and a series of small businesses such as a chocolate shop, bakery, candle maker, silversmith, art gallery and potter. And of course you can visit the famous Tobermory whiskey distillery.

    Day 7: Oban

Oban is beautifully situated at the foot of the Lorn mountains. High above the city is McCraighs Tower, a nineteenth century replica of the Colosseum. Oban is sometimes called the pearl of the western highlands, with its winding streets and picturesque bay full of yachts, ferries and small fishing boats. The Flying Dutchman is located on the north pier, less than a hundred meters from the famous Oban whisky distillery.

    Day 8:

We have traveled straight through the heart of Scotland from East to West and discovered the highlands from the water. After a good breakfast, it is time to say goodbye. The trip through the Caledonian Canal was a breathtaking and beautiful experience.
